For us, sustainability is not a short-term trend, but a fundamental attitude that combines quality, reliability, and future viability.

Carbon accounting

The CO₂e footprint includes all climate-relevant emissions. This allows us to see where the greatest leverage lies and where we need to improve. In individual cases emissions may increase due to structural changes, for example in the calculation methodology, in the scope categories considered, in the emission factors according to the GHG Protocol, or due to company growth.

Support for climate protection projects

Financing climate protection projects is an effective tool in taking responsibility for climate protection. After avoidance and reduction, it can be used to offset emissions that cannot yet be avoided, while at the same time creating positive social and ecological effects.

The “SCHAEFER Bike Infrastructure” project was a winner in the national competition “Shaping Commutes. Mobile in Rural Areas”!
With our concept, we promote sustainable mobility in everyday working life—through better bicycle infrastructure, carpooling opportunities, and flexible solutions that make it easier to switch to environmentally friendly alternatives.

On October 27, 2025, the BBSR, on behalf of the BMWSB, honored the winning projects in Bonn—including our entry.
Together with renowned companies and participating municipalities, we are among the 20 winning projects.
The award makes it clear: when companies rethink mobility, movement happens—for people, the climate, and the region.
Together, we are shaping the commutes of tomorrow.
A big thank you to all colleagues who pushed the project forward with great commitment!

“At SCHAEFER, we are firmly convinced: Environment is the future! The responsibility for a more conscious use of resources and raw materials lies in the hands of each and every one of us. Active participation from colleagues in all areas is therefore essential. ‘Climate protection’ thrives on involvement. By continuously improving our energy- and resource-efficient processes—such as the increasing digitalization of internal workflows to reduce paper consumption, the increased use of packaging elements made from recycled materials, and other measures—we are working consistently in all areas to further reduce our CO₂ emissions.
From a company’s perspective, climate protection is not just a moral obligation, but also an economic necessity. The reasons to get involved are manifold, and anyone who looks closer will find that climate protection makes sense not only ecologically, but also economically and socially. The progress achieved so far forms the basis for the next actions.
The future development of our sustainability measures depends on the active participation of all employees.”
